New Comers
We would like to welcome all new comers to the community; however, we feel we must continue to stress that you read the community rules before you post. At this point in time all mods will simply begin deleting post without warning if rules are broken. If your posts are gone, we suggest you reread the community rules. There is simply too many post for us to continue handing out warnings for each one.

To our current, long standing members who have been attempting to help curb spamming, and inform new comers of our rules: Thank you. We are afraid this week will be long for us all, and we appreciate your patience in the face of aggravation. For those that are concerned with being unable to tell RP journals from Personal Journals, we suggest for the time being that you denote the post in the location tabs as being "Roleplay Journal". This might help curb some frustrations. If you have concerns, worries, or suggestions please reply to this post or PM the Mod journal.

Secondly, while frustrating, let us remind everyone to be polite to our newest members. If you are too frustrated with the influx to reply in a courteous manner, please refrain from commenting to the posters. We would like to have any and all frustrations taken out, or to us instead of our members.

Thank you,

((Lastly: This mod can use the correct words, she swears.))

Fandom tags? Or no fandom tags?
We've been approached several times now about adding fandom tags, seeing as SWS is a large community and tons of post per day. So, we want your opinion. Fandom tags or just leave it how it is.

The good thing about tags is, sometimes people miss post from their fandom friends and this would give them the ability to find them easily. What this bored mod has been doing is compiling a possible list of tags to add. I'd love your input of what tags to have as well concerning fandoms, seeing as I don't know all of them. You can view them below the lj cut below. So leave your opinions. if there's enough 'yay's, then we will start adding them as soon as possible - (I'm going to give it about three days so that people can get their opinions and tag suggestions in.

Edit: clarity on the soon as possible: by this it intentionally meant: as soon as possible being when things are hammered out and a system is devised. and three days meaning: three days for people to get their opinions in (not three days and we're making a decision)

possible tag list thus farCollapse )

Last update of the 2009.
As the year passes us by, the last few hours ticking away as we busy ourselves with stories, and memories, the mod team for sixwordstories would like to extend everyone a fond Happy New Year. But while we get ready to don our party hats, and cheer the Merry Old Year away, we have some small house cleaning notes to add.

First and fore most, let us remind everyone that they should conduct themselves in a polite, friendly manner. While those that Roleplay have characters that are far from the nicest people ever, the players themselves should conduct themselves with the understanding that honey is much nice than vinegar. If you cannot be polite, if you cannot mind your manners (particularly involving a post that you feel violates the rules) drop a note to the mods and let us deal with it. After all, this is our job!

Secondly, running your words together to create one word has been over looked in the past. We invite creativity in all manners. However the frequency and length of these words seems to be gradually growing. While this is not a hard, fast rule at the moment, be aware that we will look at these words very carefully. If we feel you've taken our leniency too far, the post will be deleted. After all thisreallyisstillsixwords even if it looks like one at a glance. At the most, for now, we will continue to be lenient if it is limited to two words smushed together once per post. Common sense is the name of this game.

Third, we've noticed that some posting in the comm have used more than one tag per-post (sometimes using both the Personal journal and Roleplay journal tags.) We do ask that you use one tag; the one that most applies. Here is a brief explanation for what the tags mean should you not understand, or know.

Personal Journal: This is a your own journal, the one where you post your daily life story, or just want music you like best. The this journal is for you, the poster. Not a character that you've created in your head.

Roleplay Journal: A Roleplay journal is a fictional character(s) journal where they written by the all powerful player (You). The things that are posted here are often fictional in most nature, detailing the lives of a character from day to day. People do this in many ways, too. Some have these journals act as a 'livejournal for the character', meaning that the character post and acts much like any other blogger. They conduct conversation online, and meet various people via the world wide web. Others treat the journals as simply a play to post stories that occur in the character's life. Everything is action based, and often in third person. Action can be expressed several ways, but usually rather clearly distinguished from dialogue.

Meta: Meta is often a considered a character's awareness of things outside the realm of his/her play. For example, the character's awareness of his own fandom would be, in a sense, considered Meta. After all, Harry Potter would not be aware that he was a fictional character in a book while in character. However, in a meta context Harry could discuss his book with another character that, by chance, happens to be reading his book. What is meta and what isn't if often up to each player separately, but is distinguished from Out of character (OOC) post/actions in that the player does not drop character while discussing things. (And by this logic, you really wouldn't be OOC and Meta at the same time. :| )

OOC: Out of Character. This is probably the simplest. Used for Character journals when the player wishes to speak as the player and not the character. The suspension of belief is dropped completely, and the discussion is not relevant to the character. Sometimes at least. Usually OOC post would be something like a question about threads, or perhaps, updating others on the player's status (such as being out of town, and not free for RP.)

Hopefully that helps clear up any more confusion on that those topics.

Lastly, we would like to again stress the need to keep any notes in the Location and Music slot short and to the point. If you think you need to be more verbose, perhaps this isn't the place best suited to your needs. If you have a lot to point out, use a link. If you want to define a verse (and that verse is long) use acronyms. If you want to apply it to several verses at once, ACRONYMS. (Are we getting an idea here?) If you want to explain your verse, links. If you want to put a year, or city? Do it. But writing a whole sentence? Mm, we'd rather not see that. We'd also rather not have to take this option away from players. So, here it is: Keep it short, simple, and concise. Remember that after the few ruin it for the whole, so encourage others to do that same.

EDIT: It has been brought to our attention that the Music Slot allows for HTML, so links to context, verse, things of the like can be placed there. And we just tried this, and find it very awesome personally. The things we learn never cease to amaze us.

And this concludes the Mod Team update. Everyone have a happy and safe New Year. Don't drive under the influence, and don't let your friends drive drunk either.

~Your Mods.

This is going to be added to the user info soon, however, we would like to introduce to the community- Tagging!

The tags are: roleplay journal, personal journal, ooc and meta. A fifth tag 'mod post' will be added just so people can track back to our post quick and easy.

The addition of the OOC and META tags are to be reduce the information put in statues tabs. That means, unless it is important please try not to use them! We would like to keep the status notes short and sweet!

Also! Reminders- you may use LJ-Cuts to also display important OOC/Meta notes if need be, but again- try to keep them around six words.

Thank you for your input! If you still want to have a say on the layout, by all means get in there and tell us what you think!

EDIT: Let me add this- try to only use one tag at a time. I think we can all safely assume that if you are posting with the "ooc" or "meta" tags that it is an RP journal.

I apologized for the short/sweetness of this post, my brain is going on me.

Your Opinions are Needed:
[[First! In order to help tell Roleplaying journals from Personal journals (and to then filter out the ones you did not wish to see), someone has asked if we could set up tags for the post. The mods have agreed we could give this a try, but only depending on what you guys feel. The mods would create four tags: OOC, Meta, RP Journal, Personal Journal. This could cut down on the use of location tags for people, allow you to select the grouping you would like to see, and simply alert people what your post/journal is. Tags will only be added my mods of the community.

If you are willing, and wanting to use this method let us know here or in the sixwordstories post. This is more for you all than for us.]]

We've gone ahead with the tagging due to large apparent support.

Secondly! It has been suggested (in order to help the mods stick post to the top of the community, display rules, and other general Mod nonsense of that sort) that we add a blurb to our layout. We do have one at the moment, but it is small and off to the side and easily missed. However, we may change layouts in order to accomplish this. Two of your mods have come together, and looked through some layouts and picked three we think would best suit our needs. Now all we need if for you guys to weigh in.

First: Would you be open to the layout change?

Second: Which of the three would you like best if we changed the layout?

Option A (The header can be changed here to ad a banner)

Option B

Option C

Colors can/will be changed, we are aiming mostly for "style" reasons! So please keep in mind to vote for visual satisfaction as opposed to color satisfaction!:)

Please let us know what you think!

ETA: Current Counts: Option A- 19 votes; Option B- 17 votes; Option C- 15 votes.

NEW COUNT: Option A- 22; Option B- 22; Option C- 18. (12:12PM CST 11-11-09)

We'd like to get some more votes before we start breaking changing the layout!

Community Flooding Rule
So that we are all clear, the mods have added the 'No Flooding' request to the community rules. We will begin enforcing this immediately.

05. Do not flood the community. What does this mean? Quite simply that you should at least wait for your previous post to clear the community's front page before you post again. Yes, we do encourage you to post multiple times, but this does not mean for you to post 2-6 or more times in a single hour. Be aware that you are not the only poster in this community. Everyone here has a story to share, and everyone here should have the chance to share it. Flooding the community will often hide these post, and can cause a great deal of upset for other community members. Treat others as you would care to be treated.

The Mod staff is aware that the flooding is upsetting to posters. We are attempting to curb it as quickly as we can. And while we appreciate member's helping us by informing the new members, please remember to be polite. We would like to cause as little waves as possible.

Thank you,

Addressing concerns and Questions:
We have a few things we would like to ask the community at large to keep in mind. These are not so much rules, mind you, but something in the vein of trying to create a better environment for everyone involved.

1) Sometimes your fellow players will point something out (such as too many words, or other such violations to the community rules) in an effort to be helpful. Please consider this to just simply be a heads up, and nothing more. Be polite, and treat them as you would like to be treated in their place. If you are the player pointing out a 'mistake', please be courteous and polite. Rudeness is not pleasant for anyone.

2) Try not to flood the community. Every once in a while we get a string of memes in which it seems every other post is related to it. For example, the Love Memes that go around. While we do not want to police content (so long as it is not in violation of LJ Terms and Policies, and within community rules), we do ask that you be aware that if you are posting links to such a meme, others likely are too. Try to avoid posting the same six word story as they are.

3) The mod team has also recently discussed post that have direct reference to drugs, drug use, and drug abuse. We are hesitant to ban such content from the community as it does not directly violate Livejouranl's terms and policies. However, because this issue has continued to come up, we've come to the conclusion that perhaps such post should be behind Lj-Cuts with warning labels. This is something that from here on out we will be asking posters to do. This way readers that do not wish to see such post can avoid them easily.

*We are going to also include references to Eating Disorders in this request as well. Generally speaking, if it is a subject you think is deserving of a disclaimer or warning in your journal? Please use discretion and put the post under a cut with a warning. We do not wish to police content, however, we also wish for things to move as smoothly as possible in the community.

Cyber Bullying and Harassment
It has recently been brought to our attention that several members of the community are being harassed by other poster who reply, then delete their comments. Such behavior will be considered grounds for banning, and will not be tolerated. If you feel you are a victim of such behavior, but have no proof due to deleted, please follow these steps:

1. Forward a copy of an unedited notifs to sixwordstoriesmod@gmail.com.

2. If you do not receive email notifs, go to you messages and turn on email notifs for anyone that comments to you.

If you cannot provide us with proof, we cannot do anything. However, we will not stand for harassment in our community.

Anyone found to be harassing other posters in this manner will be banned from the community, with a strong recommendation that a complaint is lodged with LJ Abuse. Anyone banned from the community that continues to post, or harass other posters in sixwordstories will be reported to LJ Abuse.

This is considered by the Mod Staff to be Cyber Bulling and we will take a strong stance against it. Anyone banned will have one week to refute the claim, and defend themselves.

If someone falsely reports harassment to the mods, this will be considered grounds to ban said poster form the community.

This is not something we will consider lightly. All reports will be investigated, and kept on file. A copied and pasted version of your emailed notif is not adequate proof. If you do not follow the steps above, we will not consider the case.

EDITED: Word Limit is SIX now.

Rule 1: Each entry/post you make into sixwordstories should contain in it's entirety, EXACTLY six words. Slight strike outs are allowed but don't over do it. The post goes over 10 words SIX WORDS including strike outs, you will be asked to edit it. If you do not it will be deleted.

(no subject)
I think it is time that we all sit down and review the rules to this community. They are simple, easy to understand, but I don’t think anyone here has read them in some time. So we are going to go through them step by step.

Rule 1:each entry/post you make into sixwordstories should contain in it's entirety, no more than six words. Slight strike outs are allowed but don't over do it. The post goes over 10 words SIX WORDS including strike outs, you will be asked to edit it. If you do not it will be deleted.

Now that does this mean? 1) Your titles are not needed. There is not point to saying ‘ooc’, ‘meta’, ‘locked to [name]’. We’ve all been guilty of this rule break once or twice, but from here on out lets be more aware of what we are doing. 2) Four words in your strike outs. It is perfect for your ‘meta’, ‘ooc’ or any other title you could have put. But four words. Lets try to remember this, mm? 2) Just keep it to six. Enough said. That includes strikeouts.

Rule 2: Rule 01 means that your post should contain one story and one story only. if you have more than one story to share, by all means, make another post.

Yes! Make as many post as you want so long as you don’t flood the comm with one post after another back to back for ten straight post. However, there is nothing to say you can’t post once every 30 minutes. Generally, though, it is respectable to wait for one post to clear the first page before posting another. However, if you have more than one story to share? We welcome it.

Rule 3: do not use titles. ok? thanks. This means do not put anything in the subject line of your story.

Refer back to Rule 1’s explanation.

Rule 4: Fandom based content is welcomes as well as encouraged muse interaction both in the comm and on the individual journals. Get to know each other, make friends, have fun.

This is simple, yeah? It means play, have fun. Get to know each other, RP. Got to love the good times, yes? But let me add: There isn’t a limit to how many versions there are. And nothing ever says they have to play with everyone else.

Rule 5: Have fun. It's a free for all. Have at it. Gets too out of hand? Mods will step in.

If you can't help it and have issues with someone and want to rant? Keep it out of the community and take it to bad_rpers_suck it's what the comm is for. There is also rants.

Also if you are on the opposite end of that and want to praise? Again keep it out of this community and take it to fangirlingthing or good_rpers_rock

This one is my favorite. This is the one most abused here, and I think now is a good time for the buck to stop. If you have something remotely digging at other players here? It will be deleted. This is not a place to call other Rpers out. This is not the place to flame, start fights, or others vent your disgust for how another person here plays.

There are more appropriate places to do so. Places where if the player chooses to read, will see your criticism, but out of the way for everyone else. There is no valid reason for anyone to purposely seek out and try to bully, hurt the feelings of, or chase another Rper out of this community. This is an open forum that welcomes all skills, types, and levels of Rp. Unless they are harassing you? It really isn’t that hard to just over look a post, or a reply.

If a player is harassing you, let the mods handle it. It is what they are for. Let them handle the situation. If you can’t leave it at that, perhaps this community isn’t the place for you.

That's it. FIVE simple rules. We can all play nice, from here on out, or we can keep this behavior up.
