Fandom tags? Or no fandom tags?
We've been approached several times now about adding fandom tags, seeing as SWS is a large community and tons of post per day. So, we want your opinion. Fandom tags or just leave it how it is.

The good thing about tags is, sometimes people miss post from their fandom friends and this would give them the ability to find them easily. What this bored mod has been doing is compiling a possible list of tags to add. I'd love your input of what tags to have as well concerning fandoms, seeing as I don't know all of them. You can view them below the lj cut below. So leave your opinions. if there's enough 'yay's, then we will start adding them as soon as possible - (I'm going to give it about three days so that people can get their opinions and tag suggestions in.

Edit: clarity on the soon as possible: by this it intentionally meant: as soon as possible being when things are hammered out and a system is devised. and three days meaning: three days for people to get their opinions in (not three days and we're making a decision)

harry potter
whoniverse (includes dr who/torchwood/sarah jane)
the vampire diaries
whedonverse (includes buffy/firefly/dollhouse/whedonstuff)
gossip girl
the walking dead
lord of the rings
true blood

What counts as big? How well-known it is or how many people play in it or how many characters are active in the community, or something else entirely?

Will the tags changed based on whatever that is (example: one of the fad fandoms becomes big, gets its own tag, then loses 90% of the characters... does it lose the tag?).

This is an excellent question. I've seen so many fads come and go through the community, I don't think there's ever going to be a hard and fast rule that can be put in place to determine what fandoms are "deserving" of tags. There are times when a certain trend will garner literally dozens of responses. Tons of muses will be created and they will blow up the community with their posts... for all of three days. A month at the most. And then you'll never hear from them again.

Yeah. I really think the community will end up maxed out on tags, especially if they're just added and never removed/merged into "miscellaneous".

Also the idea of including miscellaneous sort of defeats the whole "find posts easier" point.

Also, I don't know how many people who play within a fandom actually stick to that particular fandom's canon. There are multitudes of offshoots for every fandom under the son. Are the people who change up the canon by doing things like genderswapping characters or aging them up into different stages of life still going to tag in the same as those who follow the canon exactly?

I think the idea is more that it's based in the canon than that it keeps to the canon. Or at least that's the generally accepted modus operandi around here (hence the ability to call genderswapped/aged characters canon at all). Plus the point of the community is to cross fandoms, right? Or one of the points. Or... one of the draws at least.

It's just too messy when you get down to it, IMO.

Way too messy, and completely unnecessary. If people are worried about finding posts, there are so many other ways to solve the problem. This is just going to be an enormous headache for everyone.

If it happens (which it probably will, since the tags are already being listed), I'll just ignore them. Eventually people will probably stop using them anyway, because choosing the proper tags to apply will be too much work.

Also the tag lines of posts are going to end up twice as long as the posts themselves.

This could actually be sort of funny.

Maybe it'll draw some attention away from using the community as a meme dumping grounds...

I wonder what the tag for memes will be.

Yeaah. It's probably inevitable.
